History of Halloween Nail Illustration

This post is my entry for the Halloween Nail Art Contest on NailNation by Maria Cheo Shen.

The History
From communion with the dead, the pumpkins and pranks. Halloween is a patchwork holiday stitch together with cultural religious and occult traditions that span centuries.

It all began with the Celts, a people whose culture had spread across Europe more than two thousand years ago.
October thirty-first was the date they celebrated the end of the harvest season in a festival called Samhain. That night also mark the Celtic new year and was considered the time between years, a magical time when the ghost of the dead walked the earth.

"It was the time when the veil between death and life was supposed to be at its finish.
On Samhain the villagers gathered in a huge bone fire to drive the dead back to the spirit world and keep them away from the living."

But as the catholic church influence grew in Europe, it frown on the pagan rituals like Samhain.
In the seventh century, the Vatican began merged in with the church sanctioned holiday. So, November 1st was designated All Saints' day to honor martyrs and the deceased faithful.
"Both of these holidays had to deal with the afterlife and about survival after death. It was a calculated move on the part of the church to bring more people into their own."

All saints' day was known then as Hallowmas
Hallow means holy or saintly.
So the translation was roughly, mass of the saints.

The night before, October thirty-first was All Hallows Eve.
Which gradually morphed into Halloween.

The holiday came to America with the wave of Irish emigrants, during the Potato Famine of the 1840's. They brought several of their holiday customs with them, including bobbing for apples and playing tricks on neighbors, like removing gates from the front of houses.
The young pranksters wore mask so they wouldn't be recognized.

Over the years, the traditions of harmless tricks grew into outright vandalism.
Back on the 1930's it became a dangerous holiday and there was such hooliganism and vandalism. Trick or treat was originally an extortion deal. "Give us candies or I will trash your house."

Store keepers and neighbors began giving treats or bribes to stop the tricks. The children ran from door to door for treat as an alternative to trouble making.

By the late thirty, TRICK OR TREAT became a holiday greeting.

Kiwi Fruit Nail Art

I love kiwi! I love how it taste.. The only thing I don' like about it are the seeds. I don't like fruits wit many seeds. It's a hassle.

Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of kiwi nails on YouTube, Google and even on FB groups.
Here are some examples:

YouTube:

I' ve been seeing a lot of this design bu there's only one for me that I think made the pretties Kiwi Nail Art.. and that is:

by: A Diva

Look how A Diva she made this design. It so detailed that it kinda looks lie it's a real kiwi. I love it! She's really artistic. I think her kiwi nail art is prettier that Cute Polish's Kiwi Nail Art..

Jazzing Up My First Matte Polish

Hello godesses!
I just bought my very first matte polish and it's from Etude House. The color that I chose is Petite Darling Nails Matte #10.

I think this is quite expensive because it costs Php 98.00 ($2.24) for a very tiny bottle.
Anyway, I think it will be worth it.

This is how it looks like on my fingernails.

Isn't it really pretty? I love the color.. It's sooo sweet. i applied 2 coats because I really want it to be opaque. My hubby thinks that my nail looks funny because of the color. I don't care 'coz I'm loving it!

I like art. So I decided to jazz up my first matte polish.
Wanna see the outcome?
^.^

Did I mention that these are fake nails? Wanna see how it looks like when I took them off?
:-P

Hehehehe..

Idol Nail Art

Hello godesses!
K-pop, J-pop, P-pop and other singing groups are very popular in our generation. They are called "idols". Their popular style started here in Asia. They have these outrageous outfits, glamorous hairstyle and of course cute nails!

What I like about idols are, they have different personalities yet they complement each others. Just like colors! That's the reason why nail artists like me designs a nail art inspired by these idols.

Anyway, let's look at the design one by one..

Thumb
I used San San's Sea Green, Etude House's Petite Nails Hot Pink and a Gold striper. I painted it vertically. I was surprise to see that the colors look good together. A drew a white heart and applied a silver glitter polish all over the heart. To finished it up, I put pink nail sequins to outline the heart's shape.

Index
This is my fave design. I made this accidentally haha. Anyway, I just applied it zigzag. i don't now hot to put it in words. Sorry. I just love it!

Middle
I applied gold nail polish all over the nail. This is very simple too but it looks fab because of the colors. I just put dots randomly..

Ring
I applied a Pearl White as a background. I drew half a star using a pink nail polish and then I outlines it with gold striper. I used Sea Green nail polish for the designs on the sides and outlined it too with gold striper.

Pinky
Pearl White for the background. I tried to make a cheetah pattern but it kinda failed. It sucks! I just put a fimo and 3 rhinestones to jazz it up a little bit.

Ta-da!

Sorry guys that it took me like days just to update my blog. Huhu!
I was busy and it became impossible for me to upload pix because someone broke my USB connector. GRRRRRRR!

Tiara Inspired Toe Nail Art

held a contest this month and I decided to join it. I never had any experience regarding nail art contest.
This was actually my very first time to join.

I promised my friend Bianca that I'll join the contest. I really had a very busy schedule. I almost gave up joining the contest because I don't have that much time for myself. I was really stressed. I thought I won't be able to join. The design that I first chose was really complicated and was hard to do..

I slept late because of that design. The next morning Bianca announced that the submission of entries will be extended for 3 days. I was really happy to learn that but just like what I've said I was busy. The design that i first did wore off already.

That's why I ended up doing this..

This design was inspired by Ms Universe Beauty Pageant. I made a design that looks like a crown.
I used gold micro beads for this design.

Yesterday I found out that they already chose the winners.

Too bad for me because I lost.
:-(

I felt really bad about it but at least I tried my best. I really want to win but i guess it's not my time yet. I'm happy for the winners though.

I'm sad because I lost but I'm happy because I tried my best and I didn't gave up when I was about to.

Angry Birds Nail Art

I love Angry Birds but this game is giving me a headache. I just can't beat those cute pigs. Haha! I think I like them more than I like the birds. They are cuter.

It sucks! I placed the index nail to the middle finger :( and the middle nail was placed on the index finger!
I hate myself. I had no time to fix it because I was in a hurry awhile ago and the glue started to dry.

GRRRRRRR! >:-(

My other hand is perfect. I placed the nails correctly. :)

Nice piggies!

Other pics...

Tapos!
